Father's Day was sweet for two CRBT teams. Howard Malinowski and son Chris (Alsip) out weighed the field of 30 teams to take their first victory of the season with a six fish limit of smallmouth weighting in at 17.32 lbs.; "We were fortunate to be able to fish today. My boats down at the dealer getting a new power head and won't be ready for a few more weeks. We fished out of a borrowed boat today," says Howard. "Yep, It was agreat day", said Chris. "We had our limit by 8 AM and we started looking for bigger fish. My day and I worked on one fish for over an hour. Then when we got her in the boat we found that she was blind in one eye. It was the biggest fish of our limit at 4.11 pounds." The two took home a check for $642dollars using tube and grubs to key on spawning beds in the Calumet Harbor to Jackson Harbor area of Lake Michigan.
Second place ($369) went to the father and son team of Dave Dieling and son Kyle (Elmhurst) just missing the top honors with a limit that weighed 17.09 lbs. “This was such a sweet day” said Kyle. “We always go fishing on this day,” shacking as he told the crowd and his dad Happy Father's Day. The two also took most of there fish on tubes and keyed on spawning smallmouth.
Third place and Big Bass honors 4.53 lbs. when to Sam Noto (Oak Forest) and Bob Hicks (Crestwood) with 5 smallmouth weighing 16.25 lbs.“I’m just subbing today said Sam. “Bob told me this morning that he had a few spots and we could do good,” “we just couldn't get that last fish to fill out our limit”. “It cost us the win”. They received a check for $240 dollars and the cash pot of $300 for big bass. The two wouldn't say how they got their catch.
Rounding out the last three pay slots were 4th place, Michael Nega, Orland Park / Joseph Nega, Chicago with 6 fish at 15.93 lbs., 5th place Jeff Miller, Midlothian / Al Huhra, Joliet with 4 fish at 10.29 lbs., and 6th place Russell Heusmann, Chicago Heights / Mark Howe, Chicago Heights 5 fish that weighed 9.27lbs.
