i took my two youngest to Pratt's wayne woods to fish the big lake (Pickerel Lake)
i was fishing some large fatheads on bottom as well as Sonny's dip with no takers. I switched to a float rig and caught a baby bass. I had a few other takers which i was unable to hook (2/0 tru turn too big probably) before all of my bait disappeared. My kids decided to toss the minnows in one by one...
We should have started fishing about 7:45 you could see there were fish starting to work the surface pretty good. There were some serious "swirlies" which clearly must have been some nice predator fish (nice bass/pike etc) in there.
it's a nice lake (30 acres.) Parking very close. One thing about this lake is there were only about 4 other people we could see. It has a good amount of structure compared to most fp lakes. the east shore where we were has "terraced" concrete steps all along it (chunks of concrete) there are a few fishing piers as well. There's some good wood cover around, points, and some depth variation. In a canoe I'll bet you could do great on bass and panfish. (not that you couldn't cover it well on foot if you were more mobile than i was.)
Me and my kids were able to observe a Heron, and a snapping turtle really working the shallows not more than 40 yards away.
