Does anybody have information on canoeing and fishing on the DuPage River, west branch, between Mack Rd launch site and Naperville?

I'm not sure where the Mack Road launch site is, but a new canoe portage is just being completed in Naperville for portaging the Fawell Dam. The river has a decent population of smallmouth bass and is C&R through many areas. Please practice this everywhere as the stretches through DuPage County are small and stream like and populations could easily be damaged by taking bass. Also, please note the anti-wading ordinance, which is county-wide I believe. The forest preserve police do patrol and will issue a $75 ticket without warning, even if you just happen to be moving your canoe through a shallow stretch and don't "immediately" get back in, or so I've been told by at least one CPO. Actually, as far as fishing goes, it is my opinion that the more you stay out of the water the better because of the size of the river, fish would be easily spooked by a careless wader or boater. The river does run quite shallow but can turn into the Rio Grande with a 1" rain, so be cautious during rainy stretches.

wouldn't canoeing be a just as illegal if they are pulling the non navitable river bs? I don't know how they can say don't wade...but its ok to canoe? If you don't want to get hassled by naperville river police, drive the extra half hour down 34 and go to the fox!
