Default Stony Ford Woods or Ottawa Trail woods 47th St. and Harlem

I was looking at some maps for some close access to the DesPlaines River to fish and I was wondering if anyone has fished the river at these sites....How was it? Thanks for any info...

I love it when I have to answer my own post?!

Went out to scope the river out between Stony Ford and Ottawa Trail Woods and it is a nice stretch of the Des Plaines with lots of nice flat bank fishing available.....just what I was hoping for since it is 5 minutes from my house. I will be psoting reports from this area during the season. I'll have one rod in for the usual carp/catfish but the other rod will be used for bass/pike etc....trying all sorts of different techniques. Hoping for some good results.

I never caught much over there. I found the best access over there to be by white eagle woods behind the chevy dealer. Or by the canoe landing off joilet rd. and harlem. I've had most of my catches near the hoffman dam down to swan pond. which is close to there. Note: stay on the lyons side of the river you cant fish on the riverside they willl give you a ticket. Hope this helps. good luck!

Fished from 7:30 to 10:00 this morning....a bit rough with a chilly Northwest wind and the rain overnight didn't help either. The river is staight as an arrow through this section and fishing the main current isn't fun. Saw a 5 to 7 pound carp right near the shore feeding but that was the highlight of my trip. What kind of techniques are people using fishing the main current other than a ton of lead weight? Or, maybe I need to find some slack water somewhere? I'll be back out.......
