Default 1st time taking the wife fishing - 9/5/10

Since I have been fishing again, my wife has been asking me to take her. The idea of sharing and activity that I love with her seems like a great idea. My concern is that she strikes me as more of "catcher" than a "fisher" and because of that, I have been putting it off.

I decided that it was time to just do it and see what happens. I wanted to get her to a place that I know has fish and target a species that I know how to catch pretty well, so I took to the desplains near willow springs for some catfish.

We did pretty well and landed 5 fish from 9am until 11am. Amazingly, she caught the biggest one all by herself. She saw the bite, waited, and set the hook and said, "BABE!!! ITS PULLING REALLLLLLLLY HARD!!!! After about 5 minutes of epic battling, she pulled up an awesome 28" channel! Tipped the little pocket scale at 6.5 lbs.

She didn't actually want to pick it up and hold it, so I held it for her while she snapped the pic...

EDIT: I almost forgot her first fish!

All in all, it was a fantastic morning and a new bonding experience for us. It doesn't get much better than that!!

Well done my friend. Its only a matter of time before the walleye and pike start showing up again. My canoe will be ready in a matter of days, so I'm super excited.

28 inches, thats a big kitty indeed.
