Default Gurnee Pike

So I have fished the des plaines up and down rt. 21 for a little while now, but yesterday was the first time I tried near the 132 bridge. I caught 6 pike within a few hours, all on a 5 inch white minnow rigged weedless. The pike bite is definitely on as they are striking very aggressively. I plan on hitting the river again this Wednesday, pm me if u wanna catch some toothy critters.

Nice!

I keep telling myself I'm going to hit the DP (and the Kish) and never seem to make it to either...

You should, dpr pike are fun, and more plentiful then many think. There are many businesses right off Grand that you can park at and take a very short walk to the DPR river trail.

I really need to bring my camera... I went back out on Saturday and fished between rt 132 bridge and rt 41 bridge. I must have caught 8 or 9 pike and lost another 6. Biggest one was 27", all caught on a white 5 inch swimbait rigged weedless and with a stinger hook (very important in my opinion). I was impressed with the number of pike on this outing and I gotta say I am falling in love with this type of fishing. Watching my swimbait twitch left and right when Inotice a small wake coming towards my lure and wham they nail it. Or sometimes you don't see them coming at all as they swallow it and leap out of the water. Now I just need to find the bigger ones

Fished a vernon hills stretch of the river for a little while on turkey-day. Spooked more pike on my side of the shore than I got bit from. Had maybe 4 bites (attacks) but couldn't hook up with any. After about the 3rd pike I spooked I started approaching every "castable" area very slowly and quietly. Then about 15 feet up the river I saw a small circular ripple shooting from the shore... it was a fish. I approached like a ninja to discover a GIANT softshell turtle. Biggest turtle I have ever seen in real life (snappers included). If I had to give a ballpark figure I would say its shell was maybe 28-36" wide... very cool to see.
