That's just south of Des Plaines Lake, and just after that riffle area. Lot's of twists and turns in the river in the entire stretch up north here, that means lots of deeper outside bends and plenty of crap in the water for cover. I have not been to that particular area though.

In my experience most of the pike that I have caught have either come from under and around bridges, or in around submerged trees and piles of debris. Normally I like to drop and pull large spinnerbaits through these areas, along with carefully casting longer minnow type lures.

Now that they are kaput the river is kinda awful over there. The Des Plaines is a pike river, it's always pike, pike, pike...

We are thinking of trying to get the jon boat over to the Des Plaines Lake from the canoe launch off Wadsworth Rd. Just to see what it's all about fishing-wise but primarily to test out the new older model 7.5HP Evinrude I just bought. I don't want to go too far for my first test-run of it. Anyone been to Des Plaines Lake over there?
Thank you for posting this. Will consider visiting the upper Des Plaines River for pike.
