Default State Park and Bourbonnais this week

Made it to the river a couple nights this week. Managed 3 smallies at the State Park and four in Bourbonnais. Fish were scattered. I picked up all fish in deeper slack areas adjacent to faster water.

Most came on Case 3" helgies drifted 1/4rd downstream bouncing off the bottom. I caught a real nice one on a Panther Martin casted upstream and retrieved thru the breaks just under the surface. I also caught one on a Black and Gold Rapala.

Have a couple pics of the bigger ones. Most were less than 12". I'll post pics later.

I was wading. Still learning the areas and where fish are holding right now. The floating algea makes it tough, but if you find the right areas, it's not a problem.

Live bait with a bobber floated with the current helps with the algae.

Hey Chi-town!

I agree with the live bait, but I prefer artificials. More of a challenge!
