so you had one on the line & were about to unhook em? i usually head for shore whether it's pike, catfish, or Gar once i get em on the line... especially with the type of teeth pike have, i wouldn't feel comfortable reeling it towards me while in thigh deep water...

I usually wade out to cast, & will fish from out there, but when i hook up usually head right for shore.

When they move into the creeks in the spring to spawn, they can be really thick with lots of them swimming by you and bumping tinto you. Never had one attack me though.

So the gar tried to swim between your legs or did it actually get aggressive?? Just as local said, ive jbeen in the middle of lots of em in the springtime at rock creek, and davis creek but they were so busy with the whole spawning, chasing female thing. In the last week i've seen 2 Spotted Gar as well as the abundant Long nose Gar, Spotted Gar are beautiful, sure would like to get a biggin for a photo and then plastic replica!!

Default gar

i thought it was one of my buddies getting goofy and goosing me with the rod tip. looked behind me and there was a gar doing it instead. I don't think it was aggressive or attacking me, just one of those things that happen if you spend enough time in the water.
