Default Current conditions on Kank?

Looks like I'll be heading down to Kank to visit the in laws on Monday and Tuesday, was wondering if it's even worth packing my fishing gear to hit the river. I am assuming the levels are still pretty high and I believe more scattered showers all weekend. Can anyone let me know if conditions are safe to wade? I looked on IDNR's page on current water conditions, but not sure how to read. Thanks!

Very unsafe to wade right now. River still at flood stage. I was accrosss Warner Bridge Sat and none of the islands were visible. There are always spots to fish if you know where to go. If you go, respect the river. Be extra careful, Don't take any chances. Think about wearing a pfd. Currents are very swift and if you are dragged into a downed tree or other obstruction, even a pfd may not be enough to save you. Wet muddy banks mean slippery banks, along with deep, swift currents right near shore. Make an assesment of any place you might want to fish and be safe.

i wear waders in these conditions to keep the mud off, less area for the skeeters and ticks to get me and less area exposed to poison ivy and nettles.
I agree whole heartedly with LY on being safe.
If you fish from shore, you don't need to fish past the first current break, just visit access areas, find one that is safe to approach and has some slack water.

edit for spelling

both creekyknees and localyocal are kankakee river icons, they know what they are talking about..i had 2 guys come up to me last weekend at a local creek and asked if they could wade over to this island, i strongly discouraged them from doing so, the river is very dangerous at this stage and should be respected...

Was in one of the backwaters on Friday night and made it out to the main river and the water was still moving and muddy. Very poor water quality. Got a report from near the area today that the water is still pretty much the same.

Looks like a similar year to last year. River didn't clear and come down until mid July.

try fishing creek mouths and look for the mudline. Live bait is good and roaches have been good to me lately. If you find one with enough slack you can use a slip bobber. Works great and you catch a variety of fish. Floating rapalas and jerkbaits work well too. If your bold try a j 11 rapala for a trophy pike or walleye. I have even caught smallmouth as little as 2 pounds on it.

crankbaits that run about 3 times as deep as the area you are fishing worked very slowly inside the current
