Default water levels

Just wondering if anyone near willmington has seen if the recent rains have affected the river level. Planning on hitting the K3 early tommorow.

Well, made it out from 5 till 130, tubed the river from just below willmington dam to the desplaines conservation area. First hour was great. I had something take my number 5 mepps and run upstream with it, **** near pulled me under! After an exhausting 5 minutes or so trying to kick upstream to at least maintain position, it takes off even further. I look at my reel, and can see the mono backing...uh-oh!
At this point, i have no choice, i have to try and muscle it closer before it takes the remaining 10 yards of line i have left.
So, all 60-70 yards of 40 lb power pro braid are out towards the middle of the river, i can see the uni-knot about to leave the reel, so figuring i have no options i tighten the drag and start trying to pull the fish towards me.
Its working! I think i am oulling myself closer and the fish is stationary, but at least i am getting some line back! Then, suddenly i feel slack...the fish is swimming back towards me! I take up the line as i can, and then it happens. It takes off back towards the middle and SNAP!.
About 3 feet from the uniknot, the braid gives out.. 40 LB BRAID!
Never saw what it was, but what a rush!

All i tied into was a cat on a crank and a smallie on a tube. After the first couple hours, fishing was rough. Just too hot i think. Minnows worked best, with various cranks mixed in to. I am exhausted. I need a nap then its off to get some more in-line spinners and some fishing line!

100% Gar!!

Had one do the same thing to me this past Friday. Took my Spinner and never gave it back!! I had a couple good looks at her before my 40# P.P. gave way.

It also hit a #5.

i was shocked at the power that thing had! wish I could have at least gotten a look at it to see how big it might have been. It never thrashed, jumped or surfaced, so i figured it was probably a cat. Oh well, maybe next time!
