Re: Chicago Tribune gave Kankakee river 5 star rating saturd
well, I was encouraged by this as I had planned to hit it this morning, but not any good, at least not where I went. Now take this for what its worth, as I have very limited knowledge of the K3...
Water is EXTREMELY low! Ankle deep isnt even an accurate descprition as to how shallow it was at the first spot I hit today. Now, for those that wade the river, this might be good, but as I said, I have very limited knowledge. I only wade one or two stretches, and even then I am very cautious as depths change quickly, but water was too shallow to hold any fish. The only thing I was were some crayfish as a disturbed some rocks.
The other two spots were similar. Water depth wasnt as extreme, but still low. Here, all I saw were alot of carp and some schools of minnows, looked like maybe bluegills? Not sure what they were. They looked long and thin, almost transparent, and i could make out a small dot on them (near the gills)
Otherwise, nothing! I did see a couple turtles, and a decent sized frog that kept chasing by plastic frog! he took two good lunges at it that nearly got him hooked! **** cannibal!
I really never saw any bass. Sucker fish, about a school of 10-15, and minnows. I threw cranks, plastics, frogs into and near the lilly pads, big lures, small lures, you name it. water was a bit stained, but for the K3, not too bad.
Maybe a trip in the tubes wouldnt be bad, being able to cover a large area of water, but otherwise I am going to stay clear for now. Hope you guys have better luck than I did.
