Default right off 55??

Are there good shore fishing spots right off this area? Got a day off work and want to take my 4 year old out there. He's too young to wade right now. Is this a good area for shore fishing or can u pointe in the right direction? Looking for smallies

If I were you with a 4 year old, I'd fish Milliken Lake in the DesPlaines conservation area, just East of I-55. It has better shore fishing potential. No smallies, but the panfish will keep the little one more interested.

SRV is correct Miliken would be best. There are actually smallmouth in Miliken but in very limited numbers. My guess is they were put in there by an angler. Ive caught one there along the rocks thats why i can say that. If your set on fishing the river there is a creek right across the parking area from Miliken. Current level of the river does not make this an ideal place because of how shallow it is but a good place to hit when the river comes back up. If you do want to fish down by the bridge there is a swift current riding the south shore. The water is about 4-5 ft deep there right now and usually holds alot of cats, hybrids, and a few walleye. There are smallmouth reachable but will mostly be holding along the outer seams of the channel. Being that you have a 4 yr old floating bait is probably your best bet.
