K3 Report 12/17/12
I took off work yesterday to take advantage of the late season warm spell we've been having and hit the dam area in Wilmington from 7:30-11am. My goal was to catch a walleye on a fly. It had been a while since I had been to the area there. Bottom has changed a decent amount. Between the clouds, ridiculous amounts of algae, the deeper pockets, forgot my wading staff, and overall tiredness, flyfishing didn't last long. I swithced over to a white jig and Gulp minnow and was promptly rewarded with a very nice 18" walleye. I wanted to take a picture, by my phone was buried in my waders. Had a few more solid hits over the next couple hours, but didn't land any. Did I mention the algae is crazy? We need a good rain to wash that crap out.
