where is the west side of the river? I always thought the KKK ran from east to west. Maybey has something to do with the magnetic lines of flux shifting?

This is the most interesting thread I have seen out here since the Chinese Deth Stik debacle.

it has been over a year since I first posted the Devil's Hole query and last week I was at Riverside Medical Center and ran into a retired policeman from Kankakee. Here is his Devil's Hole story, when he was teenager he was fishing near Rock Creek with his buddy , it was dawn and they saw 3 deer crossing the river, 1 adult and 2 young ones , they were heading for the Devil's Hole area and he looked away for just a second and looked back at the deer and the adult had turned around and was heading back to where it came from but the young ones were gone.

Devils hole is up stream from rock creek and in low water conditions is only about 7 or 8 foot deep. I have never seen a hole suck with any force anywhere on the river. Most drownings occur when poor swimmers or youngsters step into holes and panic or get caught in tree branches. Its a fun legend but a false one. The only parts of the river that will suck you down and hold you are below the dams. When water levels
are high obviously the current can be powerful and inheritantly dangerous. However by late summer you could probably walk through devils hole. Rock hole which is much deeper and downstream from rock creek can be dangerous for waders because it drops off abruptly going from maybe 3 foot deep to 10 in maybe 5 feet. And the danger of wader filling up with water could happen to the unaware. Using your rod tip and stepping slowly is a smart idea.

I would like to throw a snowball at that lying retired police officer.

Default strange places

This has nothing to do with the KKK,but it brought back memories of a place we use to fish at Red Lake, Canada. The place was right across the narrows from an Indian burial site. We use to catch many walleyes there with an occasionally Northern pike snatching one of them. I was thinking that the burial grounds was picked by the Indians, figuring that the ones resting in the happy hunting grounds would not have to go to far to catch a walleye

I think this is in reference to the Whirlpook below Niagra Falls. To my knowledge it is called Devils Hole as well.

There is a tram you can take that goes right over it.
