Default More Smallies Today W/Pics

All I can say is if you think this river has seen better days or you think the smallmouth fishing is not as good as as it once was....take a look. We have been pounding them every time we go. We didn't get quite as many but they are getting bigger and fatter. We got many fish that measured 18-19 inches today. My friend got 2 that measured over 20 inches. There were many more that were 16-18 inches and very few under 16. We didn't keep count but easily landed over 80 today between us. Most fish were taken on minnows but several were caught on flukes and Mepps spinners too. Get out if you can!!

This one was over 20"

Very nice, are you guys on the east side of Warner Bridge rd. ?
I've been trying to boat fish the west side of the bridge this summer without much luck...
Still fun to be out there with my new jet Jon boat!
Being bit sick I had to pass this weekend.
BTW, I'm just south of the State Park if anyone cares to hook up.....

I have tried Warner Bridge area but I just don't know it that we'll so I spend more time exploring than fishing. I'd like hook up with someone that knows the area and trade spots and tactics. I know better than to give my exact spots on here because they would be full of fisherman before long. There are some on here that know where I fish and I have met a few CLF users out there but they also understand the value of not giving away all your secrets. I will however post what I use, what works, what didn't. I like to see people catch fish!

You've got them dialed in man, congrats! I was out Sunday on the yak and we only scratched a couple smaller ones. Tried cranks and a variety of plastics but we just couldn't find them. The lack of a second vehicle limited us to a couple mile stretch west of momence, wish we could have drifted farther down river as I know of some nice holes prior to the rt. 17 bridge.

That river is amazing when you can find those concentrated schools, it's hard to believe how many fish can be in a small area.

Yeah, I guess asking east side west side was a bit of lame trick question

If guys can't figure out where you are fishing by looking at the pictures they don't know the river very well. That spot has always been know as a good fall spot for numbers especially if you use minnows. With this cooler weather you should be able to spot smallies busting shad, happens every year.

Floating minnows through a known wintering area, is not indicative of the overall health of the river.

The bass are definitely busting shad at the surface. A lot of them had shad in their mouths when caught. I am a little surprised top waters haven't produced for me this year but I see other guys are getting fish on the surface . That's the very reason I fish this spot in the fall-it holds lots of good sized fish. Maybe some of you routinely get 20" bass but I don't so when I do, it's fun to brag a little. As far as the health of the River, all I can do is compare it to my past years and this year has been one of my best. I also fish Momence, Wilmington and Davis Creek areas. Other fisherman have also told me they have been doing well this year. We can only hope the River is becoming what it once was. Some guys tell stories of 100 fish days being routine.
