Fished lower park( around area 7), 6-9pm. Water still stained( 2ft+ visibility) but at least the moss has taken a break for now. Good mayfly hatch with a few fish taking advantage. Caught nothing subsurface, threw a few crankbaits and spinners. Landed around twenty all 12"-15" with quite a few whiffs but they missed the bait. All on top, spook, torpedo and buzzbaits. Buzzbait drew the most bites and misses. The faster current and riffles were most productive. As it got dark the bite seemed to totally shut down.

Fished 6:30-10pm, lower park. Concentrated around shallow hard current areas w/ different walking topwater baits. Got around a dozen before dark 12"-15", seemed like you would pick one off and that spooked the rest of them. After dark the bite improved, fished slacker current below rockbars. Jitterbug took four bass 15"-17", cross current retrieve and slow. Tribladed buzzbait took three cats around 7lbs., the last one destroyed my buzzbait. Had to call it due to compromised line!

Fished lower park 7-9:30pm. Fished basically same stretch as yesterday but focused in shallow water very close to channel. Bite was pretty slow until dark, caught eleven 10"-14" on a gold rooster tail(1/8oz) and #3 countdown rapala. After dark activity increased. Switched between a buzzbait and jitterbug, both worked but the jitterbug is easier to control, especially in the dark. Got another five 15"-18" and a few other nice blowups. The bugs were horrible tonight. Every time the headlight went on you had to hold your breath or you were inhaling nats!!

Fished lower park (old pier area and down), 7-9:45pm. Concentrated immediately above and below numerous rockbars, 6"-18" deep for the most part. Overall average pretty good, nothing under 13" and a couple at 18", landed over a dozen. Best bite after 9, lost my war eagle buzzbait to a fat cat around 9:40, left with a sour taste in my mouth!!

18" but old and sickly

I'm pretty sure they're feeding on those stoneflies!!

Fished 7-9pm, Chippewa area. Took out the fly rod with a friend who had tied up some pretty good looking mayfly imitations. He incorporated foam in the body which really helped it float even after catching a few fish and getting slimed. The hatch tonight was poor, lasted less than 30 min. We landed seven fish 11"-15", fish were all right in front of shallow riffles. Broke off a dandy at dark, struggled with wind knots quite a bit too. Now I remember why I put the fly rod away last year..

Fished middle park, 3-5am. With recent rains and rising waters we thought we would do a little catfishing from the bank. Used bluegills on a beefy circle hook & 1/2oz slip sinkers. We set up on a current break that extends out into the river thirty feet and is at least 50yds long. Grass and moss not a problem this year, the last three years this would have been impossible in this stretch of river. Focused on slacker current right on the break(1-3ft deep). We got three bites, landed 2. My buddy stuck the first one, around 8lbs then missed the next one. My only bite hooked itself, just under 33", wish we had a scale. Biggest cat I've ever caught out of the river. Both fish were released.

Default Late report

Fished Thursday morning, river low, but no algae weeds, water temp 68 degrees, caught two 10 inch smallies on green and white clouser streamers with red dumbbell eyes, stripped through the fast water. None of other normal productive flys were effective.
Lots of caddis flys hatching. River is on the rise now from the heavy rain over the weekend. Will have to see if I go this week which will be based on the flow rate. Be careful wading.
