Orvis Photoshoot in the K3
Well, floated the K3 in the yak fro Davis Creek to Warner Bridge. What a beautiful day!
Threw Texas rigged Riverbugs and Crawbugs to start - no dice. Switched to a rapala tiger pattern and got some takers by the pipeline.
The surprise was the bull eye just downstream from Rock Creek in the walleye zone. Toothy critter, this guy tangled my net!
All fish released to live another day!
Me and one other were the only ones not fly fishing today. It really looked like an Orvis commercial out there, Let it never be said that fly fishermen are not the best-dressed and most finely appointed fishermen on the river!
Witnessed a bass kill by the king of fishermen on the Kankakee river - the osprey! This one was about a mile upstream of the high tension lines Just up from Altorf Island. He dove in and I swear he was in the water battling for a good minute until he finally emerged from the water, alighting with his catch which was a bass probably in the 2-3 pound range, barely gaining the lift he needed, He chose to dine in a cottonwood tree on the north side of the river, but took off with fish in tow when I came gliding through a few minutes later. Tried to capture as a vid, but no dice. Three osprey counted on the way down today.
Gosh this is an awesome river!
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish. - Mark Twain
