Default Kankakee River is Baaaack!

Ran the K3 yesterday (Davis Creek to Warner Bridge) on canoe and kayaks. My teen sons were in, so didn't get on the river until 1pm or so. Willows were out and the bite in them and other structure was super good. Rebel Craws were the ticket and Riverbug plastics were hot too.

Langham island to the bluffs were hot spots. Weirdly nothing downstream of Willow point.

Great day on the river. Almost perfect shape! Pics coming!

I'll post the GPS coordinates when I upload the pictures in order to make the Orvis Boys from Illinois Smallmouth Alliance twitch.

Surface bite early and late is shaping up in the lower park. 32" on one cast.
Are the mussels biting?

Fished up stream from Davis Saturday morning, nothing to report fish wise. It is definitely shaping up though. Another week or so, and with the cooler temps coming this week, should be awesome by the weekend.

That water looks very clear.

Ah - you remember that aggressive mussel pic I posted! They are actually harder to get off the hook than one would think!

Great pic of the incredible double.

The water is pretty clear. No complaints!

Clarity at least 30" midriver in lower park. Was out 7-8:30pm, fished a midriver bar and an island 100 yards downstream. Still a little high,1.9 was a rough wade thru there. Threw topwater baits in quicker current and along the breaks on the side of the island. No surface activity or hatch, lots of crawdads along the bank. Ended up with five 13"-16" and a small pike.
