Sunday Smallies
Got on the water about 9:30. River is down and clearing nicely. First few hours were slow with a few fish here and there. My friend got a small pike on Mepps and another guy got a small walleye on a Rapala. Smallies started hitting about 12:30 when the sun started to break through. I got 12 smallies with a few nice ones mixed in with some smaller ones. No takers on live minnows, few on crawlers. Most fish were caught on rattling lipless cranks, yellow being the preferred color. Fish were mostly in shallow moving water near slack areas. They were breaking the surface chasing bait fish but no luck with top water baits.

Very nice fish, and the pics are excellent. That camera shows good color and detail in the fish.
Sunday was a very good day to fish the Kankakee, my brother and I caught over a dozen, all about the same size as the ones you corralled, with one that I hooked measuring 18 1/2" and weighing over 3lbs. Caught all of mine on Rapala Minnow Raps.

Fish are starting to fatten up. What kind of topwater baits are you throwing?
