Anyways, the dude who walked past me with an empty bucket and the pack of worms looked exactly like someone from Kankakee, so maybe you're not totally right about that.

Listen son,
Don't disparage people from Kankakee or more specifically Bourbonnais. Many of us grew up on the river and its local watershed and have been fishing it for more years that you've been alive. Some of us went to college, have advanced degrees, and live up north as your neighbors. For example, I am a software architect and live in area code 708.
But you see, like my fisherman friends, I know every boulder and pool in Rock Creek from Deselm road until it empties into the river. I find it extremely sad when tools come and yank spawning smallies off their beds and disrupt the spawning cycle. Yes the bass spawn in the river too, although I hesitate to mention where the beds are. You are forgiven because you didn't know any better.
Be aware that when the spawn starts on Rock Creek, there are people who watch the fishermen, who like me, monitor their nests. We have local connections with the DNR and you will be arrested of you keep illegal fish. We also monitor the river, but it is harder to do. Protecting our fishery is one of the reasons the K3 river is one of the best smallmouth fisheries in the United States.
Feel free to return to Colorado post-haste. I hear the weed heads are having a field day.
