Default kishwaukee River

If you guys can't catch fish on the Kishwaukee River, you have some major problems. It is the best river in the state for smallmouth. Holler at a pimp if you need some spots. Holla at ya boy now. Straight from the hood.

Aw c'mon Ben R.! Everyone knows the Kish is a sewer. No smallies to be had in there. Lot's of carp and suckers though!

Speaking of which...I'm tired of waiting for ice to come off the Chain. Maybe it's time to make a trip out towards Kirkland/Belvidere and shake the cobwebs out of the gear... on big carp only, of course!

All over! Caught some really big suckers (mostly red-horse) out of the kish around Kirkland. Shallow and deep water. Last year my kids caught a bunch of good suckers just floating a worm under a float in the riffles. A couple feet deep at most. The carp mostly seem to hang around the holes and near deadfalls. Corn for those guys.

Haven't fished the Kish around Sycamore for quite a few years. I still do most of my fishing around the Kirkland area. But I remember when I was a kid I used to catch some pike in the river around Sycamore in the spring. Probably post spawn fish. If you can find a creek mouth (not many in the area), you can do pretty well.

I catch in occasional smallie in Belvidere but mostly big carp and suckers. Corn for carp, nightcrawlers for channel cats and suckers.

I love fishing at Belvidere, and never caught a carp or a sucker.
I caught Rock Bass, Smallies and Northern same with my partner although last year he caught a nice Channel Cat all in all I wouldn’t call it a sewer. By the Dam it’s a great time and good fishing.
IMHO

Nothing bitning if you go up-river and hit the calm water before the waterfall. An OCCASIONAL smallie will hit w/ a lure but nothing much.

what bait do you use for crappies and smallies in Belvidere park? Do you go up the dam in the calm water or down river after the dam?

Hey Fellas: I've been fishing the Kish for over 45 years and if you are any kind of fisherman you should be able to catch Rock Bass, Smallies, Crappies, Northern, and Walleyes from here. I've caught all these kinds of fish from County Line Rd to the mouth of the Kish where it enters the Rock. Don't badmouth this river, get out and learn how to fish it and you will be greatly surprised. Feel free to PM me with questions and I will be glad to help as best as I can. Chopper
