Default Mississippi River 5-7 Monster Sheepheads

Me and jb2063 had one goal in mind and that was to try and catch the state record sheephead 36# i beleive . Fished the river from 8am - 230pm with nightcrawlers and shrimp off the bottom. The 120 quart cooler was filled by noon. Action was steady through out the day with fish between 2 to 13#s but no state record . Maybe next time.

120 quart cooler stuffed to the max.

Great job guys! Nice freshwater Red Fish! Funny how perception changes from being a top draw gamefish near the coast to a 'rough fish' inland. That had to be a blast!

Very nice looks like a mangrove snapper mixed with carp lips.
How do you cook those and how good are they to eat?
I'm not afraid
Just add Louisiana hot sauce right.

I fish them mainly for fun but my parents likes the 3-4#ersfor the table and the rest were given away. As for taste you couldn't tell the difference between a white bass or sheephead steamed or fried.
