Got sick of waiting for ice so I invited PalosBob along for a trip to Sag West just so we could wet a line. We fished the area I was catching gills at back in early March of last year and they were still cooperating. As usual, most of the gills were under six inches. In fact I think of all the gills we caught (at least 3 dozen) were all under six inches. Kept 21 gills to use for garden fertilizer. We probably landed a dozen crappie(pretty sure they were white ones) but most were in the 5 - 6 inch range. I caught the 'whopper' that was a little under 8 inches. All crappie released. I also caught a dink bass, perhaps 7 inches tops. All caught on an ice jig tipped with a wax worm and a small slip float to keep the bait just off the bottom.
It was nice to get out. Would have been nicer if it was on ice!
