Salt Creek Report - 1/3
Finally fished the Creek in Hinsdale today, specifically at the mill, hoping for anything to bite.
The creek was low, which made it a bit harder for fishing, about 2 ft below normal stage, water was very clear, healthy w/ good visibility and with its usual "fishy" smell.
Fished right in front of the parking lot, & off the rocks by the dam, using 3" floating Rapalas & split-shot / Berkley PowerMinnow combos.
1 Smallmouth Bass, somewhere between 12-14", a strong fighter for a winter catch, caught on the split-shot/ PowerMinnow combo. The fish are in there, walleye & smallies. I really had to work for this one fish, without having any live-bait.
Did some exploring above the dam, & into the Fullersburg woods area of the creek. There's a lot of islands, and most of the spots in the woods are only accessible by bike & canoe.
- If only I had a canoe to use above the dam and into the woods. I can already think of all the good possibilities that can happen. I can dream of lots of Smallmouths in there -
