Default Mallard 3/26, 27

Took Friday off to go to court, pulled over for tail light buld out & didn't have my insurace card on me (oops). Case was dismissed :P

Outta there by 9:00 am, and went out to Mallard with the wife. We went to the south pier first the water temp was about 45deg F, checked it oout with my Smartcast - didn't mark a fish there at all. Went to the north pier and nothing.

Marked some fish near the first bridge (or maybe sticks) and saw some fish jumping. Carp???

Used jigs with zoom trailer, slow rolled a spinners, worm - nothing.

Later that night...

My buddy Mike and I went to Bass Pro Shops for there moolight madness sale (earned a frying pan upside the head from my wife) and bought 2 new reels, a rod, a pfd & some line.

Today my wife kids and my sister went there again and this time we went to the second bridge. Smartcast saw some fish there 3 ft down in about 5 ft of water. Man there were fish jumping all over the place, big ones, some right in front of me I couldn't tell if they were bass or carp, I think carp.

Those reels I got are great, Pro Qualifier SE baitcasters, 8 Bearings, centrifugal clutch, they cast like a dream.

Got some hits on a home made spinner (red/gold skirt, white jig head and a gold willow leaf blade) and finnish fish soft jerk bait, and Storm craw fish and a red gulp ribbon tail worm but didn' get any hook sets.

How new is your smartcast? I bought mine when they first came on the market and it doesn't give me water temp. I new I should have waited

Default Timing

Actually believe it or not Sunday would have been your best time to hit Mallard. Some warm days like we had, and then hit it the day when it's wind and spitting rain. They like storms on this lake. Just be careful, don't fish if it's lightning. No fish is worth killing yourself over. Note, I never did well hear when it's calm.

Yeah, how is that smartcast? I got something like that from radioshack, but it has a cord attached to the monitor that would make anything off shore hard to get too. What sorta display do you have, they seem like a cool gadget.

Racerx, no mine does not give temp readings, aquarium thermometer.

Steve, you were right, Sunday I went & caught a 12" to 14" bass on my new rig, my pole is not a virgin anymore

Smartcast is okay, but it can take the fun out of fishing sometimes.
