Marquette Park summer league update
The MP summer league started 3 weeks back - this is a Monday night contest run by Gary D. for the last 8? years. Kids fish from 15:00 - 17:00, then adults from 18:00 - 20:00.
Many more kids than adults, nice to see kids enjoying themselves!
Anywho, out of town the first week and heard fishing was slowwwwwwwww. Week 2 and man, was I unprepared. They drained the lagoon a good 2 feet to do shoreline work and we ended up fishing about 20 feet from the waters edge due to the exposed shoreline. One guy had the golden shiners (roaches) down pat and ended up with a nice 6.x pounds. 2nd - 4th(me) was around 2 down to 1.x pounds consisting of mostly dink gills, with a perch, warmouth? and a few yellow bullheads.
Week 3(this Monday) had the shoreline muck dried up enough to stand on but weights were low mainly to do dink(and I do mean dink) gills being caught. There was also the one perch caught by someone along with mostly yellow bullheads, although I caught a brown bullhead also. I ended up in first with a low 3.x pounds. Just 2 golden shiners caught - cooler weather = less shiners?
All in all MP still hasn't recovered from the winter kill of 1999/2000. The good old carping days still haven't returned, so it is mostly dink gills and crappies. Some of the bullheads are 8'' or so. Monsters compared to the rest of the catches.
Most of the lake is fenced off until the shoreline work is done. Not sure how much will be done as word is the most of the money dissapeared when the Millenium Park went over budget and any remaining work not completed this year is "tough luck chuck".
