The fishing should be good, when I go there I tend to use live bait. But Mepps buck tails are my favorite. I try to use a lighter rod and hope for a good fight. I like an ugly stick. Try all the stumps for monster bass the north side of the lake always puts fish in the boat, they may not be big but at least your catching something. Try worms for bluegills and an ultralite rod, lots of fun. Concentrate on presentation, that's the key. Also wash your hands in a scent free soap just like hunting it helps

Has anyone got any recent water temps from Shabbona? From the main lake or the No Motor Zone or any of the bays?

Default musky

Last I heard water temps were mid-40's. That usually means slower presentation, but musky feed heavily in spring when water temps are on the rise. I'd suggest cranks like baby depth raiders or super shad raps in perch patterns. I always throw topwaters in like jackpots in spring as well. It goes against most conventional theory, but it will work. Your best bets are going to to be the NMZ and the shallow bay on the golf course side.
