Default Good Friday

I am planning on going to Shabbona next week, can I rent a boat there? I would really just like to take my trolling motor and put around all day. Will this work or would I just be wasting my time? I rarely have days off and I do not want to waste it. I would like to catch any species really....bass, gills, cats, maybe even try for the elusive musky. Should I just stick to shore fishing, or is that a waste too?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Default Catfish

I don't know where they hang out during the day, but camping and bank fishing in the evening and early morning we caught a fair number of catfish on cutbait the last few days. (report in catfish forum)

Default Shabbona

Usually Shabbona is the last lake to get going. Last I heard water temps were still mid-40's. Usually the first fish to get going are the crappie. You can usually find them relating to fish cribs and they are very catchable from the shore. Surprisingly half crawlers under slip bobbers have done better than minnows during the early season. If you have an outboard I'd suggest dragging crawlers on 3way spinner rigs at Heidecke or even hitting some of the smaller local lakes that have warmed up. The Kankakee backwaters have been decent too. The spawn should get going very soon for LM.
