Default Braidwood/Mazonia/Shabbona shore fishing access

Hey fellas, my boat is only available while I'm asleep, so I'm going to be trying out the lakes south and west of town this summer from shore. What are the best places to park and access these lakes? I'm a single-rod, no-bucket angler, just want to get into some fish so I can send pics back to my A-hole buddies in CO that torture me with their trout pics all year.

I saw a pic of Fonzie holding a big wiper from Braidwood in another thread, one of you guys should sell him out and tell me where he caught that, also.

Alrighty then.

Dug out the belly boat, going to float some Mazonia puddles in the morning, then swing up to Braidwood for a bit to scope it out, then maybe head over to Kankakee state park to scope out the river. I haven't been to any of these spots yet, hope to get some fish on. If not, a recon mission.

If you see a fat kid in a 20 year old Caddis tube, say hello.

Belly boating mazonia is a nice option
Try the wilderness lakes in the south unit. They lack boat launches, but are very accessible to a belly boater.

I wanted to hit those, but I have dumb snorkeling flippers that I have to wear in my stocking waders. Tough to hike back like that. I will be getting new bootfoot waders soon; my 5mm neoprene Cabela's waders from the mid-90's fit me exactly like you imagine they might lol.

I hooked into one dink bass on Ponderosa right by the boat launch, and fished Eagle and Monster, as well.

I am also going to get an inflatable kayak this summer, I want to be able to access more water than I can reach in the belly boat. Mazonia is my new favorite place in Illinois, I haven't had solitude like that since I moved out here, it was nice.

Also, I fished Braidwood for about 20 minutes before I just couldn't do it anymore. The hot humidity coming off of the water was just...I dunno. Wrong.

I cut my teeth on alpine trout lakes, I can't get my head around fishing 90 degree water...

(The joke is that the Mazonia Caldera is not a thing people say. Also... Volcanoes in IL?)
