Really? Ever been on the Chain chevellemanus? Ever been on Petite? It's a thoroughfare between 2 lakes with a party cove. IMO the guy who killed the kid should have been sentenced life without parole, but YOU can blame our justice system for that. Laws are enacted to protect the guilty, not the innocent. I don't need the government to babysit me during my leisure activities. Maybe you do. Punishing the innocent ain't going to bring the kid back. What's the difference between that family pulling a tube on Petite in the middle of a weekend afternoon or that family going to 69th and Halstead for a hamburger at 9pm on a Friday evening? No difference in my eyes. There are just some things you don't do. Some people learn these things as they go thru life and some don't. Why don't you write a letter to the LCPD and ask why they don't patrol all the water on the Chain? Why they sit in the no wake zones and write tickets? Why the purchased new wave runners which are unmarked? They aren't for safety. Once you do your research come back and chat with me, and please refrain from accusing me of being coked up or drunk. If you don't want to read my reports, don't. You're not hurting my feelings.

Lets start with i never accused you of being drunk or coked up then we can move to yes i have been on the chain for 41 years now. I know its a zoo these people didnt.
Next i dont think 26 foot boats and 70mile an hour speeds are needed there. I like you many others im sure wish we had some say with any law department. and last i could care less about your feelings or chatting with you ive done my research what im suppose to do is act like a hard ass like you is what your saying. Im sorry i dont agree.

I don't care for the large boats either, but they have every right to be on that water as you or I. Money talks. The pleasure boaters bring more revenue to the Chain than the fishermen. I just don't need anymore babysitting. It doesn't matter if your doing 40 or 70. If you're drunk you won't be able to control the boat properly Here's a thought. How about first offense for BUI is a fine like 1k, second offense is real steep fine and 3rd is a loss of boating privileges on IL waters, or maybe a forfeiture of the boat? How about a mandatory homicide charge if you kill someone while BUI? How about the Lake County Sherriff patrolling the waters like the police do on LOZ or Havesau? They're out looking for intoxicated boaters, not people who didn't purchase a Chain sticker. I guess looking for drunk boaters is not good for Lake County's bottom line. I'm just really tired of everyone having to give up our freedoms because of a few idiots out there.

No I blame the coke head. But putting a kid out there in all that traffic is irresponsible, no two ways about it!! You’ve GOT to have some common sense!!!!!!!! See my signature below.

It is a common sense issue... The lakes are what they are.. Dangerous party areas for people with no regard to anyone's happiness but their own... You have to know where you are at all times before you can be safe... The parents aren't to blame for that kids death, but they have to share responsibility for putting him in jeopardy... They chose to be in that place at that time, knowing full well the history of the lake...

I'm going to put in my 2 cents, and this is strictly my thoughts and opinions. Coming from someone who is out there 250 plus days a year, I can tell you that I am 100 percent in agreement with speed limits and size restrictions. Ignorance is not a right that our men and women died for. Its not only the people who are drunk and drugged up that are posing dangers to people. Its the guys who buy their (Pe%#s enlargement) boat and have NO CLUE of the rules of the water, or any regard fot anybody else out there. I see it all the time. The guy in a rental aluminum boat getting buzzed by a guy in a 36' Donzi. IGNORANCE! That is not a right! When do peoples lives and safety outway money and revenue? Most other lakes have a speed limit that is enforced. My boat does 70 mph, but I'm smart enough not to do that on a 400 acre lake. No need to. I do agree with the fact that we need more enforcement out here. Great point! At the same time, we do not allow people to drive 70 mph down side streets, so why is this an infringement on our rights? Its just a law to keep people safe. My good friend was hit by one of these morons and lost his leg. Btw, it was in a no wake zone, but this guy was flying in his oversized boat and could not see the bouys or my buddy in the water. Again IGNORANT! Some laws are put forth for a reason and I believe that this law will save lives and make for a safer waterway.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 6, 2013 MCHENRY, IL
State Senator Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) is encouraging local residents interested in watercraft safety to attend a public hearing scheduled for August 29 to obtain input on three boating safety measures sponsored by State Senator Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield). The meeting, to be held at the Lake County Central Permit Facility in Libertyville, will discuss the proposals then give opponents and proponents the opportunity to testify and share their opinions.

Boating Safety Legislation Public Hearing
Thursday, August 29 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Lake County Central Permit Facility 500 W. Winchester Libertyville Campus

The three measures – Senate Bills 1477, 1478, and 1805 – were assigned to the Special Committee on Watercraft Safety in the Senate. Senate Bill 1477 would suspend the driver’s license for three months of any person who is found to have operated a watercraft under the influence. Senate Bill 1478 would prohibit anyone born on or after January 1, 1990 from operating a watercraft without a valid Boating Safety Certificate issued by the Department of Natural Resources. Lastly, Senate Bill 1805 would require operators of a watercraft towing a person or persons to display a red or orange flag on their watercraft.

Althoff, who is a member on the Special Committee, is urging those with a vested interest either for or against the proposals to attend the meeting and voice their opinions.

Althoff said that if anyone wishes to testify for or against the three legislative measures, they must call Senator Morrison’s district office at 847-945-5200 to be placed on a list of speakers at the meeting. Additionally, Althoff said there is the potential for this to be the first in a series of similar public hearings on these legislative proposals.

For more information, call Sen. Althoff’s district office at 815-455-6330.
