Water was just under 56 degrees on Saturday in most of the southern end, a couple degrees higher in the windblown covers/bays. My wife and I had a rough time most of the day (there was a fishing tournament going on the same time), but we did manage to find a nice spot were we caught a few dozen crappies, some reaching 13-14". My wife later caught a pair of small white bass. All were caught on shiners or Powerbait crappie bites.

Shelbyville can be a tough lake to fish. I have gone out with a guide a few times and now have better success when i am there. I fish the lake quite a bit. Crappie are probably in 14 to 20 ft try 1/8 to 1/4 jigs with tubes and twisters. Check with the guys at Leperuchan Landing at the entrance to Wolf Creek SP if the whites are biting they will know where and on what. My guess right now is the whites are in 12 to 15 fow and right off the bottom. as for muskie and walleye try down side of the dam. Muskie may be in coves??. Don & Barb Satterfield for guide i've allways done good when i go out with them.

It seems like crappies and white bass are the only things people catch down there when i ask them. You can catch a few of them almost anywhere you go this time of year. How are the bass? are any being caught and where at. With the water temp. being at 56 they are probably in prespawn mode eating up and staging to spawn, right?

The crappies we caught were in only 3-5 feet of water on Saturday, as well as the white bass.

Younggun basser,
Bass are usually pretty good all over the lake

Ive caught quite a few. Last year I was using 2 1/4 jigs w/3in shad bodies tied about 18 in apart caught 2 at once 18 lmb and 14 lmb couldn't believe it. also done well throwing cranks. usual bass techniques.

Caught some good walleye as well in the past.
I'm plannind on getting outthere in a week or two

Wolfkeeper 3 to 5 fow wow. are you sure they weren't yellows? Not doubting you just unusual this time of year out there. Hard for me to say i have not been out there yet this year.

Ill also be out there this weekend. Ill be out of the south end of the lake trying for mainly bass and crappie. And if i get itchy i might toss for some ski's. From my experience the bass are pretty simple, just hit the coves, laydowns and willows with texas rigged worms, spinnerbaits or jigs and you have the chance of having a good day. Im not much about the crappies though if i find them they are fun to catch. Good luck..

Default watch out for big bugs!

My sister's family once vacationed down at Shebyville Lake. One nephew got bit by a dragon fly he said, the size of a crow. Another nephew got stung by a yellow jacket the size of a sparrow. They all got bit by mosquetoes the size of golfballs. They said everything down there was bigger than they've ever seen in thier lifes. Also, there were lot of snakes down there.
