Default Lake Evergreen

Hi, everyone. I am a college student at ISU and fished Evergreen and ponds in B/N area last year and this fall. I was wondering if anyone has tips for Evergreen this spring. I usually park near the dam, but will drive to wherever. Mostly fishing for bass, saugeye, or catfish. I didnt bring my musky stuff down. Thanks for the help!

Hi Youngfish,

For saugeye ~
Put on a 1/2 ounce orange trap or a chart. Walli Diver or a small twister tail and walk the wind blown North shore of Evergreen in late April and May. The small coves between where they pump water in from the Mackinaw all the way to the pumphouse are the best for shore fishing.
Years ago when I fished for saugeye, we used to catch nice sized limits up there doing what I just described. Fish up to 4-5 pounds were not uncommon ...
I hope this information helps you.

Youngfish,
Can you recommend any ponds in the Bloomington/Normal area to get a 6 year pumped about fishing?

There is a pond in Normal off of Martin Luther King Dr. a little southwest of the Jewel on the corner of MLK Dr. and Hovey. Its not the best pond if your looking to catch nice sized bass but I reckon it would be perfect to get a kid started fishing. There is a little of everything in there and just using worms would give you the opportunity to catch pretty much anything in it. I also do well catching catfish with chicken liver.

kjakc,

White Oak park is a decent lake as the shore is fishing accessible all the way around and fairly shallow (no worries of a kid falling in over their head).
You also might consider Miller Park in Bloomington. Good variety of fish and also fairly kid friendly. Certainly plenty of small bluegill available to keep a kid busy. There is a free kids fishing derby that is held at Miller Park each summer that you might be interested in also. I think it is in June. I am sure you could find out more info through the parks and rec department.
