Pulled the boat down to shelbyville for a weekend of camping/boating/fishing. I mentioned fishing last as the group I went with are not that into fishing. I managed to get one buddy out the first morning and was able to put him on some fish. Otherwise I had the mornings to myself while the rest of the group managed their hangovers.
Crappies were the targeted species. Reports varied from saying the spawn was mostly over to fish are still shallow. I found them shallow, really shallow. Slip bobbers with minnows did most of the damage but a 1/32 jig with a shad fry plastic took a few nice ones including a couple small eyes. I managed my limit every morning within a few hours. Some sorting was necessary to get the 5 under and 10 over 10" limit but most fish were 9-11". A 4-5lb cat was the biggest fish of the trip but it was a fun battle on the light action gear!
Planned on trying for some bass but the hot crappie bite was hard to resist.
