Default 7 Words can't post on CLF without getting your post booted

7 Words you can't post on CLF without getting your post booted....Ed George Carlin has got nothing on you!!!

Per my recent post last week regarding how much things change in such a short period of time, It got removed. I couldn't figure out why....I wondered what did I say? Did I offend somebody? Did I write a profane word without realizing it? Oh well...couldn't understand why until I asked Ed while fishing on Friday night...There are certain buzz words here that automatically deletes your post. They are not even any of the 7 words George Carlin artistically presents. THey are buzz words most spams begin with I guess.

The word I wrote was [email protected]@y. It is kinda sad that CLF has to put filters on posts because of things like that. Where is this world headed....no jab at CLF...but at those who send out emails guaranteeing you 1000% return on investment in Koala Lampur, bigger and better johnsons, and computer bugs. I guess that brings me back to the post that got nixed. It is funny how quickly things change and progress. The things we worried about 10 or 15 years ago are nothing compared to what we fear and worry about today.

Just my two cents.

Yeah - the SPAM has been brutal lately. Sometimes I can deactivate them before they post which saves the trouble of moving/deleting them. Some don't even post, the just put their SPAM URL in the profile or such to try and bring the rankings up. Those get wiped out :0)

I used to run a pretty big video game forum. I also used phpbb . I see that you are running an older version, so to avoid the spam and the bots you should upgrade to the newest build which is phpBB 2.0.22 . At least thats the most recent stable release. After the new version is installed then you can install scripts that will prevent bots and spammers for the most part. Here is the site I got all of my security scripts from. http://www.phpbbhacks.com/category/10/ .

I know its time consuming to install a new build due to incompatibility issues with any add ons you may currently have installed, but its worth the effort. As long as you leave the mysql database alone the forum will retain all users and posts. I can lend a hand or even help with technical questions you might have . Doing this would make the site more secure.

What spammers and bots do is crawl search engines with keywords like "phpbb (version number)" and with those results the spammers and bots attack the forums using outdated software. Since this site is spidered by google and other search engines its easy for them to find the vulnerabilities in the site.

Hope this information helps. And If my post comes off as ripping your tech staff thats not it at all. I'm just a member offering some information that helped me with this problem when I ran my site.
