Default The Slough

Took a trip to Willow Slough a couple of weeks ago. No water at all. From the parking lot all that can be seen is acres and acres of tall weeds with a small stream flowing through it. The dam wasn't even blocked off. I don't know how long it would take to fill it when the dam is blocked but I can't see it happening by hunting season.

Default Update?

Anyone go by Willow Slough lately?
I grew up north of there and my Pa taught me how to fish and shoot all in that same park, would be a shame if the process to get it back i shape doesn't get going, bass don't grow overnight.
Thanks!

Got this from the link above: "The plug was put back in on September 8 at which time all of the ditches were poisoned to rid the watershed of carp and other undesireable fish. The lake has been slow to fill as rains were scarce in September. However, restocking has commenced as of this date, with largemouth bass and a few crappie. Panfish should arrive from the hatcheries within a month. Fishing opportunities will be limited however, since most all of the fish will be fry and fingerlings at the time of stocking. Initially, catch and release will be encouraged so that those few adults that go back in will reproduce and jump start the fishery. Thanks for your patience. "

My question is didn't they restock willow slough several years back..maybe in the 90's sometime? Why all the trouble?

a very few carp and shad were seen by IDNR types. given size and type of water it was nothing but the place is controlled by duck hunters who need any reason to mess with it. fortunately it can grow fish in a hurry.
