Default Silver Carp

Ive been asked by a national conservation group that is monitoring the advancement of the silver carp [the jumping carp] up the Illinois, DesPlaines, Kankakee and sanitary canal for any reports of these fish above the Starve rock dam.
If anyone sees these fish, I would truly appreciate it if you would shoot me a PM about it, where and when.
Thanks!!!!

Are Asian Carp and Silver Carp the same thing, or are they seperate species?

Uh, well, "asian carp" can include a lot of different species.

The "crisis" is over two specificaly: Bighead, and Silver.
Two different fish that have become a major ecological headache and threaten to become as widespread as common carp.

To a lesser extent, Grass Carp are also problematic and can also be grouped as "Asian Carp"

I think the term "bighead" could be offensive as well. Let's refer to that species as "asian-american cranially dilitant carp".

I caught one on the Illinois between starved Rock and Ottawa. I saw a whole buch of activity next to a barge and stopped to take a look. I thought maybe it was bait fish. I threw a crankbait a few times but I only felt some bumping around. Then I noticed whatever it was, was feeding on the debris that was being knocked into the water off the barge by birds that were sitting on this stuff. I threw the crankbait up on top of it, dragged in some of this smally black stuff and Whammo! The big head carp took off like afreight train. I landed the fish. I'd say it was 8 to 10 pounds. This was two summers ago by the way.
