Went out today from about 4:30 to about 7:00pm. Started off with a nice fighting smallie though he was small - maybe 10". Moved to a new hole that I thought I had known the location of but figured out after about an hour that it was actually a little downstream from where I thought it was.
My second cast into this hole and I picked up a nice fighter of a walleye that measured 18". Went and found my uncle and brother-in-law, who didn't trust my judgment and had gone looking for other spots to fish. Probably ended up wasting about 30 minutes getting to them and back, but it was worth it for me because when we got back to the spot, my uncle's first cast was greeted by a HUGE HIT that didn't want to budge at all, he finally got it reeled in enough to have it jump about 20 feet in front of us. It was big, but I have no idea what it was because it straigtened the hook on his jig (he needs to adjust that drag!)
I picked up another nice walleye a few minutes later at about the same spot as my first...this one about 19". I was a happy camper as these were my first adult Fox walleyes!!!
Bro-in-law got skunked, but still had fun and hopefully learned some. He was using minnows on hooks, sometimes with a float and no weight. I was using minnows on 1/16th oz. jigs pretty much exclusively (chartreuse). Uncle hooked another big one (he claims, I thought it may have just been a snag) and it popped his jig off.
Anyway...now I can't wait to go back. It was so cool. I had a good time!
