Default Spring Turkey Hunting

I was looking for some help with the Spring Turkey Hunting. I was hoping to get some information about some place to go. I was thinking of signing up for a permit to Lake Shelbyville or Clinton Lake. Does anybody know how the Turkey hunting is in these areas. Or if anybody has any suggestions of where to go I would greatlly appreciate it. This will be my first time out for Turkey and I am looking to have a good experience. Thank you in advance for any info. provided.

Isn't it too late to apply this year still?

I've hunted down in Shelbyville numerous times. Never saw one turkey.

What about Apple Canyon State Park? I don't know if it's huntable. But that area is killer for Turkeys...

I dont hunt for turkeys (other than at Jewel) But the two places that I have seen the most wild turkeys while fishing was at Stephen Forbes State Park near Salem IL. (dont know if they allow hunting there though) and at Cedar Lake in the Shawneee National Forest near Carbondale.
Last year while fishing Cedar Lake with a buddy we were hearing a lot of birds, he pulled out a raspy old hen mouth call and he called in three big toms and about a dozen hens right to the waters edge while we were fishing a cove. I was very impressed. I would be willing to rent him out to call birds for you.
