Default Navy Pier Report -- 12/20

Fished the North side from 6:15 - 8:00 am. Had nice action till sun up. Caught several doubles with the perch between 7" - 9" inches. The perch came on both maggots and minnows. Once the sun came up, the sheet ice got worse and the fish turned off. It got to the point that the ice thickened up so that you couldn't get your bait to the bottom -- a real pain in the a**. Every time you'd try to retrieve your bait it would fly off when breaking through the ice. Time to do some real "ice fishing" on the chain!

Fished Belmont with JC 9:45 to 11:15 am. Got about 20 6 to 8 in Perch on my icefishing gear, it really works the best rather than reg. fishing rod. Most came on Auger (I don't know how you spell that) Spoon w/ 3 maggots, not on the orange icejig I also had tied above w/ 2 maggots.

When we got there there was about 1 in of ice pretty much throughout the whole harbor. We used a gardening tool to bust the ice up. Keep it in large chunks and you can push the under the ice. Thatway they stay out of your way. JC is smart like that.

Sounds like waaay too much work for 6" - 8" perch. Next weekend I'll chase the 14" crappies through the ice on Bangs lake (I hope). If the temps really hit and stay in the 40's, I'll have to give the perch another shot...if the ice is gone.
