Default Ice Update - 01/06/04

What a difference a day makes, or not.

The lake in my subdivision was 95% covered with ice. You could tell where the open water was, out in the middle, by the ring of 200 geese that lined up on the edges... Cool sight

Tampier was 99% ice covered, 100% north of 131st Street, with some hoar ice on top like frosting on a cake.

Horse Tail was 99% OPEN water, with steam rising in abundance, while, less than one-half mile away,

Papoose was 100% covered, little frost. So. am I to assume that Horse Tail is a lot deeper than the other lakes?

Tonight is supposed to be down to 0 degrees again, so it won't be long now!

Thanks for an updated report. Horsetail is shallow on the west bay, but then deepens and I believe is about 15' deep near the east culvert. Being a smaller lake though, I am surprised it hasn't ice up. Not that it matters since it is closed to ice fishing

Default Or underwater springs...

Never been to the lake before but one big possibility is underwater springs in the lake that would either create current or produce warmer water(could explain the steam). Just a thought.

No CCFP Lake has springs. I know because I asked the biologist that question a few years back. You would think after digging out all the lakes they would have hit a spring in at least one of them.
