Default Smelt Fishing Get Together - 4/2

Well smelt season on park district property starts in just acouple of weeks. I have already taken Friday April 2nd off to be down at the lake front. With the lake side of Montrose being open for the first time in 3 years I am hoping for a good year and hope to see all the old timers from the past that moved to different locations when they closed us off. Anyways, is anyone interested in a gathering at Montrose for some smelt fishing, fish frying, beverage consuming, and fish story B.S.ing? It is a good chance for those who have never smelted to learn the simple task of smelting. It is more of a social event than fishing, with the smelt being the bonus.
Let's here from you and we can get the paticulars down.

That Friday is going to be hard for me to get off work, but I would love to join on another day.

EDIT>>>>>

Duh, I work during the day, smelt fishing is at night. I will try and make it down there.

I think I have some extra nets and maybe trolleys. I think I have only one anchor. I will pick up some more gear before then so if anyone shows up who has never smelted cand set up a rig. If the wind is calm I will bring down my cabanna (10X10) to use as a base. If it is windy it would become a kite. I am going to get down early and try and wrangle up some fresh salmon and trout for the grill. Nothing like flopping fresh fish on the grill. As far as location I would say at the new jetty as there are poles to tie to. I have a set-up any where pole so it doesn't make much difference to me. As time gets closer we can discuss supplies needed and get a location nailed down. The new wall is about 15 foot wide so there is plenty of room to move around.

Smelt, do you think you've got room for me?...( about 100 yards from you) If so, I'd like to stop by and take a look. I haven't smelted since coming from Michigan and it's totally different here, so it will be cool to check it out.!

boy o boy. if I wasn't going to be in tummy button recovery mode then I'd be there. tubes, u.p. smelting? I hear thats where the volume is. They ice fish for them on inland lakes on lower end too, right? maybe later I can trip up to the upper end for a couple days.

Tubes, the more the merrier. In chicago we do it a little different. I will even let you go into the water first with the brown papper bag. LOL. Heck yea you can come down. It's more fun when you got like a hundred guys at your site telling bunches of "the one that got away" stories.
