Default "Downtown" Fishing vs. Northpoint - How to?

I'm going to try some morning fishing from Chicago before the Air and Water show chaos. I only really know the Northpoint area (not very well I might ad) from a couple years ago when I could go out often (pre-daughter!).

Anyone have any pointers that alter from fishing "up north"? I understand I need to go out A LOT farter to get to some deeper water, but how far and how deep should I be fishing down there? Thanks for any info.

well if the fish are doingthe same thing as the fish around northpoint, I would look for 80 - 90 fow.

Default Hey Hess, is that you?

You're a dad now? That's crazy man, crazy! Congrats!

According to my calculations, 80-90 fow east of Chicago harbor is way the **** out there, around ten miles or so it appears. I've never salmon fished down there. But, perch fishin can be really good around the lighthouse and nearby olive park weedbeds.

Have fun dude!

Default Crazy man... crazy.

Thanks.

Jeff - Yeah man, I've been a dad for 2 years now!!! How's things going? As it turns out, I'm not going to get out early... and you can't launch at Burnham until 8:00am. I might actually go looking for some Perch for a while... sometimes I forget there's other kinds of fishin! I guess that's what happens when you only go out a few times a year!

Take care man. The few times I have been out I've tried calling you on the VHF.

Take care bro! Hope to run into you soon.
