Default Wolf River 10/15 to 10/17 Report....BRRRRR! Evil bastages!

Wolf River 10/15 to 10/17 Report....BRRRRR! Evil bastages!

Figured I had to post since this was my first time out to the Wolf. Stayed at Pine Grove. Sparse, affordable cabins. People were nice, although “cranky” the day bartender was a bit hostile. Probably needed to get “lubed” up. Once he got a buzz, he was tolerable.

Water temp was dropping fast 52 on Friday, down to 47.1 on Sunday morning. Cold and windy. Found fish, but could not get them to bite. Worked from Hwy 10 and New 10 bridges all the way up to Devils Elbow and all points in between. Boat control tough, but anchoring helped. Forget the trolling motor, too much wind. Nice to see the yahoos, ie thin skinned folks, not on the water.

Got two walleye. One 15 incher, as nice as that can be, and an 8 inch cigar. Lost a pike at boat. Jig and minnow. Fish were suspended, in 16 to 21 FOW, 5 feet off bottom. Wickedly cold. The livelier the minnow the better. Fished deep outside bends, back end of pools. Figured aggressive fish up front, but couldn’t get them to go.

Say any maps of that stretch of river? No HotSpots, but anything is better than nothing. Plus, optimal water temp for walleyes? Gotta be low 40’s.
Drive it like you stole it!
Bass is for guys that cant catch walleyes.

When I went to the Wolf in the spring, I also would stay at pine grove. Most of the time we got 1 of the big houes, and 5 - 7 guys would fit. They also have a 1 bedroom place behine the bar, so when the wife goes with, I can get the small place. They never seemed to have minnows, but it is nice ot keep the boat in the water, and be 20 feet from the bar and houese. The last time we went up, twice then tried to short change us. Paid with 20$ and they gave change for a 10. The first tiem I thouht it was me the second time the next to me saw and said something. After that the walleye bit on the detroit river made for a better trip.
