Default Lemont Heritage Quarries 01-01-06

PalosBob & I fished the Lemont Quarries from 11:30 - 16:30. Palos has both open water and ice fished it before so he was my guide. Where the crappies are in open water sure didn't apply to ice fishing. Small gills just about anywhere on the lake although no numerous ones per hole. Palos outfished me about 15 fish to 1 but I wasn't exactly trying my best for them. Most of the day we had the entire quarry to ourselves. Someone showed up around 15:00 and fished off the south shoreline next to a rock pile. If he was catching something besides 5 - 6'' gills - good for him

Ice was around 6'' almost the entire area(third quarry). No idea on ice condtions on the middle quarry. The first quarry has a fast water flow so is never really safe to try and ice fish.

Some pictures of the average size gills:

Warmouth or hybrid???

Josh. Go to yahoo maps or something similar. Look up the intersection of main st (111th) and Pruxne St.

Pruxne is the road you turn into... follow it in until you see a guard shack. Just BEFORE the guard shack make a right (its the second right you can make after the entrance.) Follow that down past 2 stop signs.... keep going straight and do not turn. When you come to the end of the road it looks like a big cul-de-sac. That area is a "boat launch". Where you will be is the Quarry furthest north. There should be a board there with the map and everything.

Be careful, the ice was 6-8" in most places when I was there saturday... with this rain anything is possible.

We walked almost the entire quarry with NO PROBLEMS. There are a lot of spider looking cracks but they werent a problem for us (I was out with about 10-12 guys or so).

Let me know how you did.

Bill.

Warmouth or a hybrid warmouth, not sure which. Never put it in the report - Palos caught it within some rock pile in about 15 FOW. The only non gill caught.

I wasn't too impressed - but I did only ice fish it once.

You would think someone would have stocked Perch and Smallmouth in those quarries long ago, no?

Before ice season is over (I assume we will have cold weather again) Palos and I are going to travel light and make it to the golden roach quarry (he knows where it is, I forget) and have a blast catching golden roaches. Tried it open water once and if you didn't get a roach within 5 seconds, something was wrong

Busse is loaded with those things. I seen a lady next to me this spring at the handicap pier main pool landing them at a good clip. Funny thing is see came over to me and asked what they were I told her they were bait fish golden roaches so she starts throwing them in her bucket I guess she was going to try to eat them.
