Default When do Crayfish come out?

Basically wondering when the crayfish imitators start becoming the go to patterns. Not sure what a crayfish's life is like. Don't they borrow down for the winter?

They do hide in winter. Don't bother trying any plastic until spring. I like to give them a try when the temp hits about 60. I have heard conflicting reports on this, but I've been told to pull the claws off. I know most of the adds rave about the claws up defensive posture, but a guy who has been running a Hawg Tank for 9 years once told me his side of the story. He had been feeding Bass you name it and seeing how they react. Bass hit them when their running, not when the claws are up. Just someone's opinion, can't prove it either way.

Default Crawfish

If the water is clear enough , I see crayfish all year . Give them a sunny day or two and there will be some moving about in winter . There definitely aren't as many as in the summer but they get eaten as I've caught smallies in coldwater with a craw in thier mouth .

You don't need any plastic that is an exact replica any time of the year . A close approximation like a tube , woolybeaver, twintail grub or jig/pig are good enough. Put your bait at the proper depth at the proper speed and you will get bit .
