Default Silver Carp

Ive been asked by a national conservation group that is monitoring the advancement of the silver carp [the jumping carp] up the Illinois, DesPlaines, Kankakee and sanitary canal for any reports of these fish above the Starve rock dam.
If anyone sees these fish, I would truly appreciate it if you would shoot me a PM about it, where and when.
Thanks!!!!

The silver carp is quite abundant in the lower fox river by Ottawa, and I recently caught one in my shad net in the backwater area of the Desplaines conservation area. If I'm not mistaken Biologist have collected two of the three species in the sanitary and ship canal already. For what its worth I also caught a Golby in the Illinois by Seneca this spring as well.

Having dealt with these "flying carp" for the past 5+ years down here on the LaGrange Pool, I can tell you a sure fire way to see if they are in the area. Just cruise at about 2000 - 2100 rpm with your motor. They will be flat flyin out of the water. A friend and I fished this past Sat and had up to 8 in the air at a time. I know some were 12+ lbs. We had one around 6# end up in the boat. If we saw one silver on Sat, we seen prolly 500+. They jump more if the water is above 60 and don't seem to jump much at all when it is below 50. Cruising the shallow (<10ft) inside bends seems to be one of their favorite haunts.

Lord help us if they make it to the Lake.

Hope this helps in your search.
