Default Permit question

Do you need anything besides a fishing license to fish for smallmouth on Lake Mich. Where can I find a list of safety equipment required to float on the big pond. Thanks

The coast guard has a book you can get, {I would guess they might even have it on line} that will tell you what you need for your size boat.

I believe the safety requirements for the Great Lakes are the same as other inland lakes. The requirements vary by size of boat. The most commonly overlooked and ticketed requirement is having flares that are not out of date. Beyond the required, I suggest some type of VHF radio, even hand held. Obvious requirements are fire extinguisher, life jackets, throw ring/cushion, bail bucket, and oar/paddle for small boats. I suggest finding a USCG booklet or web site.

Looks like I just need some flares. Coast Guard site is a good one. Not sure about the license.
