'Hot spots' are really just areas frequented most by fish. Fish will visit these spots at some point every day. A map with acurate contour lines would make the best 'hot spots' map, if you know anything about fish activity and movements. The pre-made Hot Spots maps are good start for a body of water you are unfamiliar with. They give you the general good areas. But, as said, time on the water with a good contour map, a depth finder and a marker pen or GPS will show you the potential hot spots. Points, inside weedbed turns, steep dropoffs and other 'structure' are what you want to explore by boat or land. Find 'the spot' on a 'hot spot' is what you need to do.

Many of the Librarys have them on the self as well. Check them out and try before you buy. One thing I have used them for is referencing a channel somone is talking about. Google earth isn't real good at that. I make a note to myself and swing in the library which is on my way home. I know where all the hot spot maps are at. It takes just a few minutes of my time.
