Default Pickeral?

I have heard therre were pickeral at a certain lake I fish a few times a year. Is there any way to target them. Also, how big are these things on average. Also, I have caught many small perch but none of any kind of size, just a few while fishing for gills. Is there a species of perch that stays at a small size or are this like LM perch and I just havent found the right spot for theme. This lake is somewhat small.It is maybe as big as one or two harbors. Thank you.

Pickeral are in the Esocidae family, the same family as pike and muskie. Redfin pickeral only grow to 12" - 15", Chain pickeral on the other had grow to about 40". I would target them just like a muskie or pike. Here is a good link:
